Sunday Shorts: ‘Doppelganger’, starring Timothy Olyphant
Today’s film is the 2001 short Doppelganger. The film is written by Burn Notice staff writer Michael Horowitz, who also co-directs with Gareth Smith, and stars Timothy Olyphant. Olyphant, who has been on shows such as Deadwood and Damages, can currently be seen on the FX show Justified, playing Deputy Marshal Raylan Givens. The fourth season of the show begins on January 8th. ****
We Live In A 3-d World – Or Do We?
“We live in a three-dimensional world,” James Cameron admonished Hollywood a few weeks ago on the opening of Life of Pi. Calling Ang Lee’s film some of the best use of 3-D since his own Avatar (2009), Cameron was trying to push the movie industry – as he has been for some time – toward a more full-bore commitment to 3-D filmmaking. Incredible Fan-Made Poster Art for ‘Django Unchained’
As he did with Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino revisits history in Django Unchained, only this time through the filter of seventies pulp B-movies and sixties westerns. Django Unchained is yet another success for the writer-director and as expected, his film as inspired several artists to design fan made posters as tribute. In my opinion, these posters are far better than what Miramax produced and really do harken back to the look of Spaghetti Westerns of the past, such as the original Django and The Mercenary. Saturday Shorts: ‘Partly Cloudy’, by Pixar Studios
Today’s film is the 2009 short Partly Cloudy. The film, which is animated, is created by Pixar Animation Studios, and is directed by Peter Sohn, with music from Michael Giacchino. Pixar has been responsible for some of the most well-received movies of the past decade, including Up, Toy Story 3, and WALL-E. Their last feature, Brave, hit theatres in the summer of 2012, and the summer of 2013 will see the release of Monsters University from the studio, a prequel to the 2001 feature Monsters Inc. ****
