precious1

Claireece Precious Jones endures unimaginable hardships in her young life. Abused by her mother, raped by her father, she grows up poor, angry, illiterate, fat, unloved and generally unnoticed. So what better way to learn about her than through her own, halting dialect. Winner of the Sundance Jury Prize and the audience award at this years Toronto International Film Festival, Precious, which is based on Sapphire’s experiences teaching in Harlem has had a profound effect on audiences everywhere. To simply call it harrowing or unsparing doesn’t quite cut it; Precious is the first real contender for best pic at this years Academy Awards.
