Sound on Sight Podcast #308: 2012 Oscars Foreign Language Nominees, ‘A Separation’ and ‘Monsieur Lazhar’
The Academy Awards are just two weekends away, and we’ve been itching to talk about a pair of films that wound up getting nods in the Foreign Film category, so we’ve brought in a pair of guests to help us out. Zero Pretention co-host and real-life teacher is on hand to talk with us about widely acclaimed Quebec export Monsieur Lazhar, and SOS contributor Louis Godfrey joins us as we finally tackle Asghar Farhadi’s A Saparation.

In the podcast you asked who votes on the foreign-language film Academy Awards. After a committee has selected the five foreign-language nominees, only academy members who have seen all five films in the theater – not on DVD – can vote for Best Foreign-Language Film. (I believe they verify your screening of the film in a theater by setting up academy member screenings where you enter and sign in — please!)
