It came out in 1992 and covers much of the recording of the black album, as well as the touring and mega-success that followed. It originally came out as 2 part set on VHS, but I'm sure it's also been available on DVD for quite some time. I too found "Some Kind of Monster" to be pretty boring, despite being a huge Metallica fan and a sucker for these kinds of films, but "Year and a Half" is interesting in that it covers a period when they were thiiiiis close to becoming the biggest act in the world. Even if that album hadn't been as successful, this still would be an interesting look at their creative process. On a side note, I've also been reading the new book "To Live is to Die: The Life and Death of Metallica's Cliff Burton", which I highly recommend. I never realized just HOW much he brought to the band and what they brought to the metal scene as a result of that. It's also kind of heart-breaking, because no one seems to have ever had a bad thing to say about him, but he had to go out in about the most horrible, undeserved way possible.
