BBC to air three ‘Doctor Who’ specials in August
As we wait with breathless anticipation for the second half of Series Six of Doctor Who, the BBC has just announced that it will air three Doctor Who specials in the run up to the show’s return Saturday August 27th .
The specials will feature celebrity guests such as 30 Rock’s Scott Adsit, singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer, The Nerdist podcast’s Chris Hardwick, former Philadelphia Eagle Hugh Douglas, WIRED Magazine’s Adam Rogers and Anthrax’s Scott Ian and many others as they essentially geek out discussing their favorite Doctors, the scariest monsters, and the bravest (and foxiest) companions from the series. This eclectic and articulate gathering should make for some stimulating television, and should finally put to rest the myth that nobody “cool” watches Doctor Who (take that, Mom!). Take a look below for a preview:
“Doctor Who: Best of the Doctor” will air August 13th, 9 pm ET, “Doctor Who: Best of the Monsters” airs August 20th, 9 pm ET and “Doctor Who: Best of the Companions” is set to air after the Doctor returns in “Let’s Kill Hitler,” August 27th at 9 pm ET.
And while we are on the subject, check out the newest trailer for the second half of Series Six, not a lot of new material from the one released last week, but hey, Smith looks good in a Stetson!
Bow ties remain uncool however.

Ahem, that’s Katebo, thank you. And yes, River is cool, but she clearly had some sort of a warped childhood. It’s understandable that there would be certain things that fall through the cracks, such as a proper appreciation of the awesomeness of bowties. I blame the Silence, personally.
Sorry Fräulein Katbeaux, but from the “mouths of children wisdom comes…”
And this was all before her experience with the Silence…but I may have just forgotten something along the way.
What are all these marks on my arm?
“Monsters here?”
Lies! Bowties have always and will always be cool. The Doctor’s not the first to figure that one out.
Sorry KatieBo, but even River Song, merely a few days old as a baby told the Doctor in baby speak that Bowties were lame. Decades later she was also right about Fez hats. Keep your eye on this Melody Pond, she knows fashion. And murder.
