This movie was HORRIBLE! The original is way better made and realistic on the way the characters behave. The original, Mari dies. They raped and murdered her, but this crummy attempt to recreate to attract a younger crowd was horrible. I personally thought it needed for her to die to make it seem alright for the parents to go and butcher them all. She didn't die, but the heads were still rolling. While I do love the original film, which I view more as a comedy and a comment on violence as entertainment than a horror film, the remake isn't all bad. It just invalidates its own premise in the last 90 seconds, turning the film from social commentary into torture porn in a single, terribly stupid scene. Yes, the remake is relatively jack-ass free. That said, I only JUST saw the original version last week, and it was not a good film. It seemed to jump back and forth from the kidnapping and rape stuff to an episode of Benny Hill, featuring a couple of inept lawmen (one of them being a youngish pre-"Sweep The Leg!" Martin Kove) who could have stopped a double homicide if they would have bothered to investigate an abandoned car that belonged to the criminals. Whoops! Is the re-make free of these jackasses?
