Kate’s off in distant places, so the ‘cast’s format gets shaken up a bit this week. In lieu of the usual Week in TV, Simon invites Adam Kempenaar of Filmspotting fame and Justine Smith of the Sound on Sight film podcast to discuss the first season of HBO’s Girls, which ended this past weekend with the calamitous “She Did.” After that, Kate rejoins Simon with the magic of editing and talks with Lindsay Wood of the Sound on Sight Dr. Who Podcast about one of TV’s most iconic shows ever, Twin Peaks, in a somewhat supersized edition of the DVD Shelf.
Thanks to some unforeseen technical mishaps, this week’s chaptered edition comes in .m4b rather than .m4a format. It should still work in iTunes, but apologies for any difficulties that may crop up.

Simon Howell is a new Toronto transplant, having divided the rest of his time between Halifax and Montreal. He joined Sound On Sight in 2008 and has since become a member of the OFCS (Online Film Critics Society). Currently he co-hosts and co-produces Sound On Sight Radio as well as the Televerse TV podcast, and obtained a BFA in Film Studies from Concordia University in the spring of 2012. I’m glad to hear Justine and Adam join in the conversation of GIRLS. I watched the full season and often felt that each episode was a mini independent film. The writing is smart and observant and not like any other show on TV. Lena Dunham is also very observant of herself. I like that she thinks of herself as only going from 11 to 13 pounds overweight…
I loved the wedding scene in the finale and cracked up when Elijah’s friend said to him in front of Hannah when he was introduced to her: Hanna? Oh Hanna! the straw that broke the camel’s back? She does not look like Camryn Manheim.
I’d have to say I am a Hannah because I’m attracted to Adam but not sure he’s the perfect mate and would say all the wrong things to him.
