Trailer: ‘The Awakening’ aims to provide old-fashioned scares

Though it had premieres at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and the 55th BFI London Film Festival (and was covered in reviews here and here on the site), this coming Friday, The Awakening, a British horror film starring Rebecca Hall, Dominic West, and Imelda Staunton, will be opening wide in the United States. In advance of its US release, you can check out the trailer for The Awakening, about a female author in early 20th-century England who specializes in debunking paranormal phenomena and is ensnared by a curious case involving a ghostly child while becoming close to the boarding-school teacher who brought the ghost to her attention. Based on the spooky, atmospheric trailer, which you can watch below, it looks like The Awakening aims to scare audiences in an old-fashioned sense, a la another 2012 release, The Woman in Black.

His long journey began in Western New York and has taken him to the American Southwest, where he resides with his wife and six--count 'em, six--cats. His favorite Disney movie (non-Pixar) is Beauty and the Beast, but his favorite Pixar movie is Ratatouille, and he thinks the latter is at least five times better than the former.
