Hey Bryan,

Great rant and thanks for the plug. My stance is that all the undead are just groups of people outside of normal society.

Your mummies are wrapped up in their own time and can't move on. 'When I was your age we had to walk to the pyramids... 60 miles... uphill.. in a sand storm.' The older generation always shakes it's fist at those meddling kids.

You have your werewolves/ alters who pull the John Wayne act and go a bit too wild for polite society. Lon Chaney and Bill Bixby beat their thumbs down the road because they can't control themselves... they got that gypsy curse of bohemianism.

Your vamps are all counts, lords, sires... basically a bunch of officials and celebs feeding off their fame. It's no wonder they can't look themselves in the mirror... if someone were to pull them into the light of day and their whole mystique gets put at stake.

Zombies were the non-culture... people too wrapped up in bs to think for themselves. Buy this war, buy this product, buy these drugs, buy these ideas... they gobbled it down and lost themselves. They were like us once... but then they let their brains turn to goo with too much hulu (the true plan 9).

The problem we have now is like the Romero zombies... they start mimicking human behaviors... including film making. When people who are brainwashed by the culture start producing the culture it's a downward spiral... we end up with things like Return of the Living Dead 5 and other Scifi Pictures Originals... oops it's SYFY now to be 'more twitter friendly and easier to trademark' as if someone is really going to try to fake like they are on that label.

Still I agree with you fully... like truffles in sh*t... so we look for good and interesting films. But I think that's becoming true of all movies. The zombies are just more obvious because it's in vogue.

Still here's to the recession my friend because if the great depression taught us anything, better movies get made when nobody has the money to finance crap... at least that's the theory which lets me sleep at night.

Hey Bryan,

This was a great rant. If you ask me there are never enough zombie films. I do understand your point. Quality of quantity. But if you ask me there are far better zombie films coming out each year than any other sub genre of horror. Shaun of the Dead, Dance of The Dead, Fido, Land of The Dead, 28 Days later and even it’s sequel. Hell the other day I even discovered a virtual on line zombie film in which you participate on deciding what the characters choose to do. Oh and yes The Walking Dead comic book is one of the best books out there to buy. There is great music and rock bands inspired by the genre and cities even organize Zombie marches. Personally I don’t mind digging through the crap. As long as they keep making these films I will be happy. Beside is it any different than the typical slasher film or vampire film?
